To show how Charles Dickens presents Good and Evil characters Essay
To show how Charles fiend presents Good and Evil charactersIn the beginning of the Victorian period many children (orphans) wereforced to turn to crime chiefly because the children in the workhousewere mistreated and abused. Another reason is many people weremigrating, which resulted to a growth in the population, which leftmany children homeless. Charles Dickens has based his unexampled, OliverTwist on this. He compares Oliver with what intent was like for boys inthe 18th Century. Throughout the story Oliver encounters many evilcharacters and a few virtuous characters. The evil characters try topersuade him to racecourse the life of crime while as the good characterssave him and enable Oliver and the reader to learn that a life ofcrime does not pay. Charles Dickens uses the novel to criticise howchildren during Victorian times were forced to turn to crime when lawsdid not protect them. Dickens main character, Oliver, is presented as the hero of thestory he learns that goodness triumphs oer evil. The incident in thestory where Olivers goodness is shown is when Bill Sikes forces himto rob Rose Maylies houseDespite the threat, Oliver decided to warn the people in the house heretofore though Oliver is threatened to act out this evil deed, he choosesto do the right thing by warning the owners of the house and riskinghis own life. In doing so, Dickens shows that Oliver is a goodcharacter through the choices Oliver makes.Charles Dickens presents Mr Bumble as an evil character. At the startof the story Dickens describes him as a flump healthy man. While asall the orphans are being starved, he is never going without. WhenOliver asks for more food, Mr BumbleAimed a blow at Oliver... ...liver (Monks was anothermember of the gang) and began to weep sayingPlease miss, dont come to any harm Id give my own life to save him.Honest I wouldDickens has move to emphasise the fact that in the Victorian Timesthere werent very strict laws, which meant there were a lot of ver ybad people musical rhythm at that time, but still some good left, and eventhough Nancy was around very dangerous people she was a good person atheart (thats why you have the proverb, dont judge a book by itscover). It also illustrates how good Nancy was, for her to tell Roseeverything, she must have been a very brave soul and must have lovedOliver dearly to do such a kind thing. She knew Oliver didnt deserveda better life ad didnt need to be pulled into a life as insecure asher own. Dickens presents Nancy as a good person through her emotionsand actions.
